Five Avenues of Service - Community Service

Our club continues to work with the 5 community partners we have had for the past 4 years.  These are The Ridge House, Mariposa Academy, Bailey Charter School, The Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Toys for Tots. 

The Ridge House provides temporary housing and counseling to Reno residents who are returning from the criminal justice system.  Our past contributions have involved repair, painting and re carpeting some of the houses in which their residents live.  Most recently, we painted the exterior of 4 of their buildings on Keystone Ave during the International Rotarians at Work Day.

The Mariposa Academy is a grade K - 6 charter school which focuses on preparing children from our local Hispanic community to speak English, become better students, and better contribute to our local community.  Past projects have included graffiti cover up, building a garden for educational purposes, installing safe ground cover in the playground area, and contributing to their annual fund raiser.

Bailey Charter is also a local charter school which focuses on the educational needs of many low income families in Reno.  In the past, we have helped them paint the exterior of their portable classrooms, install grass on their ball field, improve their playground area, and donate shoes and coats to help provide adequate clothing for the students.

Our members continue to work one Saturday morning each quarter at the Northern Nevada Food Bank.  We sort and box food for the various qualifying families in our community who could not provide for themselves otherwise.

Thanks to all our members who donated balls, coloring books and batteries for the 4th Street Toys for Tots Christmas gift donation campaign. We received a nice letter of thanks from the group on behalf of all the kids.
